Robert Forster and No Depression

The new (and last) issue of No Depression is now hitting the shelves. My spread of Robert Forster printed wonderfully and almost forces you to look at it when you turn the page! I'm delighted it turned out well....but sad it's the last issue of the magazine that I feel gave me my start.

Two and a half years ago, I was asked to do a full page illustration of Joan Osborne. Up to that point, I had done mostly weeklies and regional magazines having only started my freelance career months earlier. Grant, the AD at No Depression, took a chance on a relatively (completely!) unknown illustrator from South Carolina and asked me to do a full page illustration on a subject I struggle with - pretty women! I admit it....I have trouble illustrating women without making them look haggard or older than they are. The Osborne piece turned out well though and I was asked a few issues later to illustrated ANOTHER pretty woman for No Depression, Kelly Willis! I did my best, Grant! I'm just happy I was asked to do a man in this issue!

I am happy to read on Nodepression.com where the bi-monthly magazine may be ending, but the name will live on with an bi-annual 'bookazine'. I'll keep an eye out for it.

Thanks again Grant and good luck to everyone at No Depression!
