'Founding Fathers' picnic - 4th of July cover

Just wrapped up an upcoming cover of the Flagpole for their 4th of July issue. They left the idea open to me as long as I used the 'appropriate theme.' I thought of an idea of having important political figures from history who helped shape/found the US. Franklin is having fun flying his kite. GW is on the grill while Abe enjoys a burger. Finally, Teddy is chilling listening to music and having a drink.
This is only my third cover for the Flagpole over the 5 years I've been working for them so I wanted to do something eye-catching. It was a challenge to fit the figures in the space so I used an odd perspective. Plus, I had to make sure everyone recognized the people or the joke and intent of the cover would be lost.
I experimented with different textures to get an 'antique' feel. Plus I muted the colors a little more than I usually do when working digital.

oooo neat style and colors!
Hey Jason,
Thank you for your kind comment on 'DRAWN'. I'm a big fan of Jack Davis too. I'm flattered to hear you think my work is a bit like his, even though I know I'm nowhere near the man's talent. I just started doing pen and ink drawings for fun, but Jack has always been influencing me in the back of my mind since I was a kid. I actually hadn't seen any of his work (25years) til I recently started doing more personal work and less animation drawings. And it all re-surfaced.
Great, powerful drawings on your blog. I'm happy I found it!
TOO cool! I think GW could've had a doobie over his ear whilst grillin-n-chillin!
It turned out really well, although I think Ben Franklin should have been wearing an IPod. :-)
Any cover that has "Buzzcocks" printed on it is cool enough, in my book.
