Joining the Nuke club

I decided to do something completely different for this week's 'Illustration Friday' (word of week: tattoo). My style is usually dominated by quick, loose, heavy marks with watercolor washes. This time, I used photoshop for 75% of the piece. I wanted the colors to portray the neons of a 24-hr tattoo parlor. I don't like this technique nearly as much as my usual way, but it was a fun change. I still prefer the spontaneity I get from my pen drawings that I can't duplicate with the computer.

The subject is of course Iran and depicts the Ayatollah wanting to join the 'nuke' club. Everyone knows with any serious club, you have to get a tattoo! Of course the Ayatollah says he wants to join for energy purposes only.....Only for energy.....Of course.......Nukes are bad...mmmmmmkay!

I did one with and without the skull. Couldn't decide which one I like better so I uploaded both.

These are both great...I do like the one with the skull though. I think you were 100% successful with the colors...it really feels like it's about 3 in the morning. I also like the political cartoon aspect...great idea!!

Really really great! I like that the tattoo artist has flames on his bald head,a skull and tribal work on his arm and then the surprise of a sweet little heart on his wrist!

Thanks everyone for your comments. Since I do some editorial work, 'IF' helps my practice with putting the word into context. Sometime I do political stuff like this week.

anyway...thanks and keep sketchin!

Clever, gives one pause. Yet beautifully done.

Jason--this is fabulous. The crack is a nice touch, too.

As much as I like skulls, I think that the sans-skull one works better. I think that your point is made without any kind of deathly vapor coming off the Ayatollah's back.
